Commonweal GCSE Results – Summer 2024
Well done to our class of 2024 for today’s Year 11 results. Students and their families have lots to celebrate. Commonweal is an inclusive school and every child here can celebrate success according to their own individual starting points.
At Commonweal, we pride ourselves on teaching independence, resilience and overcoming adversity. The pandemic affected 9 months of their education over their Year 7 and Year 8 experience. Virtual learning and a catch-up curriculum was put in place; support from parents/carers at home was vital, guidance and support from teachers was essential; hours and hours spent learning/reflecting/revising/self-testing was needed.
Students at Commonweal completed many GCSEs and other equivalent qualifications this summer. As a collective, 63% of students achieved a Grade 4 or higher in 5 (or more) subjects. 20% of students achieved 3 x Grade 7s or above. In addition, we are thrilled with our boys as they continue to make significant progress this year; an ongoing key priority for Commonweal.
There were notably strong performances in many of our subject areas including Science, French, RPE, Computer Science, Sport and Geography. We know that many KS4 results will be celebrated today, but a few individuals need a mention for their outstanding results, these include Grade 9s which are reserved for the top 3% of students nationwide in each subject; a special congratulations goes to: Izzy Hains, Anthony Longjohn, Sophie Daniels, Yehia Sarhan and Grace Ridley. We must also congratulate those students whose progress over 5 years far exceeded the average progress; praise must be also be given to: Roselyn Boachie, Daniel Wang, Rakesh Savalapu and Eva Leroy-Tagoe.
Charles Drew, Headteacher said: “Well done Year 11! Resilience and contribution are key values to succeed during this period in your lives and you have shown these in abundance. We must thank our Commonweal staff, parents and carers for their fantastic support too.”
